Connect your own domain to your Wallet (wallet.yourbusiness.com)

Give your wallet an address on your own website, like wallet.yourbusiness.com. You add one record at the company that runs your domain’s DNS, Wallet secures it automatically, and it’s usually live within minutes.

Your name on the address
Links, QR codes and texts point at your own domain instead of a Wallet one, so customers see a name they already trust.

One record, no certificates
You add a single CNAME record. Wallet issues and renews the security certificate for you.

Your website is untouched
A subdomain like wallet.yourbusiness.com sits alongside your existing site and email without changing them.

Before you start

  • Plan: custom domains are on Large plans. On other plans the setting shows “Use your own domain … on a Large plan” with a link to the plans.
  • Pick a subdomain. Most businesses use wallet.yourbusiness.com. Any name works, as long as nothing else on your domain already uses it.
  • Know where your DNS is managed. Usually the company you bought the domain from (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace and so on), unless you moved it to Cloudflare or another DNS host. That’s where you’ll add the record.

Step 1: Start the setup in your portal

  1. Go to My Wallet Configuration, open Vanity URL, and find Custom Domain.
  2. Type your subdomain, for example wallet.yourbusiness.com, and click Set up domain.
  3. The portal shows the record to add, with a copy button next to each value:
Type Name Target
CNAME wallet.yourbusiness.com domains.wallet.inc

Some DNS hosts want the full name (wallet.yourbusiness.com); most want only the first part (wallet), because they add your domain for you. Use whichever your host’s form expects.

Step 2: Add the record at your DNS host

Open your DNS host in another tab, add the record, and save. Steps for the most common hosts:

GoDaddy

  1. Sign in, open My Products, and choose DNS next to your domain.
  2. Click Add New Record. Type CNAME, Name wallet, Value domains.wallet.inc, TTL as suggested.
  3. Click Save.

Namecheap

  1. Open Domain List, click Manage next to your domain, then the Advanced DNS tab.
  2. Click Add New Record, choose CNAME Record, Host wallet, Value domains.wallet.inc.
  3. Click the green check to save.

Cloudflare

  1. Choose your domain, then DNS, then Records, and click Add record.
  2. Type CNAME, Name wallet, Target domains.wallet.inc.
  3. Turn the proxy off: Proxy status must be “DNS only” (grey cloud), not “Proxied” (orange cloud).
  4. Click Save.

Squarespace Domains (including domains moved from Google Domains)

  1. Open Domains, choose your domain, then DNS and DNS Settings.
  2. Under Custom records, add a record: Host wallet, Type CNAME, Data domains.wallet.inc.
  3. Click Save.

Amazon Route 53

  1. Open Hosted zones and choose your domain.
  2. Click Create record. Record name wallet, Record type CNAME, Value domains.wallet.inc.
  3. Click Create records.

Another host? Look for “DNS”, “DNS records” or “Zone editor”, add a CNAME record with the same name and target, and save.

Only if your portal shows a second record

If your domain is already set up on Cloudflare (in any account), the portal adds a second record to prove you own it:

Type Name Value
TXT _cf-custom-hostname.wallet.yourbusiness.com shown in your portal

Add it the same way as the CNAME. Most businesses never see this step.

Step 3: Watch the status

Back in the portal, the status updates on its own:

Status What’s happening What to do
Waiting for your DNS record Wallet is looking for your new record. After 15 minutes it adds “This can take up to an hour.” Nothing, if you’ve added it. DNS changes can take a while to spread.
Verify ownership Your domain is on Cloudflare, so the TXT record is needed. Add the TXT record from the portal.
Securing your domain Your record was found and the security certificate is being issued, usually within 2 minutes. Nothing.
Live Your wallet is on your domain. Open https://wallet.yourbusiness.com to check.

If setup didn’t finish

If the status shows Setup didn’t finish, the reason appears beneath it. Fix the cause below, then remove the domain and add it again to retry (there’s no retry button).

certificate_blocked: a CAA record is blocking the certificate

Your domain has a CAA record, which limits which companies may issue security certificates for it, and it doesn’t include the ones Wallet uses (Wallet’s certificates are issued through Cloudflare). At your DNS host, either remove the CAA records, or add entries for the certificate authorities Cloudflare uses. Not sure which entries to add? Contact us with your domain name and we’ll send you the exact records. If someone else manages your DNS security settings, send them this section.

dns_mismatch: the record doesn’t point at Wallet

Wallet found a record for your subdomain, but not the right one. Check that:

  • the target is exactly domains.wallet.inc (no typos, no https://, nothing after it);
  • there isn’t an older A or CNAME record on the same name. Replace it rather than adding a second one;
  • on Cloudflare, the record is DNS only (grey cloud), not Proxied.

validation_failed: ownership couldn’t be confirmed

Usually the TXT record is missing or its value was mistyped. Copy the value from the portal again, paste it into the TXT record exactly, save, then remove and re-add the domain.

stuck: nothing changed for over an hour

If the status hasn’t moved in more than an hour, the record most likely hasn’t been saved or is on the wrong domain. Check it at your DNS host, then remove and re-add the domain. Still stuck? Contact us with your domain name and we’ll look.

Want your own short domain instead, like yourbrand.coffee? Ask us about a managed domain. Instead of a subdomain on your existing website, your wallet gets a short address all of its own, with nothing in front of it.

A managed domain lives in Wallet’s own DNS account, so we look after it for you. It’s used only for your wallet, which means it can’t also host your website or email. Because of that, we start with a quick conversation: we can register a new domain for you, or you can bring one you’ve registered just for your wallet. Choose Contact us next to “Main domain” in the portal to get started.

Good to know

Your email keeps working. Adding a CNAME for a subdomain doesn’t touch your MX (email) records.

Your website keeps working. wallet.yourbusiness.com is separate from yourbusiness.com, so your existing site is unaffected.

Removing a domain breaks links on it. If you choose Remove domain (or Cancel setup), links and QR codes that use your custom domain stop working. Your wall.et links keep working. Once removed, you can delete the CNAME record at your DNS host.

Reprint before you remove. If you’ve printed QR codes with your custom domain, replace them before removing it.

Why it matters

People trust a name they recognise. A wallet link on your own domain looks like it came from you, because it did. That makes customers more likely to open it, save it, and come back to it.
